Medical students, interns and residents are trained in the department. It is affiliated to the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv University, since the latter was founded.
Dr. Sacks retired in 1977, Prof. Yomtov Barisak, a well known ocular pathologist, took his position, leading the ophthalmology department for further improvement and academic research. He retired in 1989.
Since then the department is managed by Prof. Pinhas Nemet. Prof. Nemet specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, well known in his field, was also the chairman of the Israeli Ophthalmologic Society for several years.
Today the ophthalmology department is well equipped, has 20 hospitalization beds , 2 state of the art ophthalmologic operating theaters, and a large outpatient clinic. 24 hours emergency service is available.
2500 patients approximately, are being operated yearly in our operating theaters, and about 30,000 patients are treated in our outpatient clinic.
