The 60 acre Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is abustle with construction sounds and sights in a massive effort to cope with its responsibilities in providing expert medical care to an expanding and diversified regional population. The Center's stunning buildings and state-of-the-art equipment are eons away from its humble beginnings during the Ottoman Empire. It later served as a British military hospital in Mandate times and then as and Israeli army medical center during the War of Independence, before realizing its destiny as one of Israel's leading medical facilities.

The Center, affiliated with Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine, currently serves nearly 400,000 persons (an expected 500,000 by the beginning of the next century) representing a virtual mosaic of Israel's population.

Just a few short years ago, the Center consisted primarily of a cluster of huts and wooden barracks. Despite growing pains during its transformation into the prime medical facility that it is today, it continuously provided the superb skills and advanced methodologies which characterize it. Much credit is due to Friends of Assaf Harofeh around the world whose devotion and generosity have enabled AHMC to attain and maintain its fine reputation.

AHMC is a hope, a dream, a home, a heaven, a solace, a healing place for body and spirit; a teaching and training facility, and a research center. Above all, it is a commitment to people by people.

  Assaf Harofeh is ... the Promise of Parenthood

Assaf Harofeh's In-Vitro Fertility Clinic, a leader in the international field, has enabled hundred of childless couples to achieve parenthood. Because of the immensely rewarding rate of success here, 32% as compared to 20%-25% worldwide, the Clinic acts as consultant to other countries.

A team of skilled gynecologists, obstetricians, ultra-sound specialists and lab technicians determine the causes of the infertility, and whenever feasible, the in-vitro procedure in initiated. The happy result is a baby - the miracle of a new life.

The Obstetric and Gynecology Division delivers many thousands of babies each year. The Neonatology Department cares for hundreds of premature and high-risk infants annually, utilizing the most advanced techniques to assure the newborns a healthy start in life. A number of visiting doctors from abroad have been trained at Assaf Harofeh in these new techniques.
