Assaf Harofeh is ... Getting the Whole Picture

Assaf Harofeh's Department of Diagnostic Imaging provides services to all the various departments (both in-patient and out-patient) as well as the prison services and Israeli Defense Forces. In addition, it serves as a referral center in interventional radiology for other hospitals from the central area.

The department is involved in research studies and its teaching unit affiliated with the Tel Aviv University. The Imaging Department encompasses many units, each devoted to a specific purpose such as general and pediatric radiology with over 100,000 x-ray examinations being performed annually of the chest, genito-urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract and skeletal system.

Ultrasound (over 19,000 examinations are performed annually), has three state-of-the-art units for general, pediatric, vascular, intraoperative and interventional studies. Computerized Tomography with the latest twin-flash technology, performs examinations of the nervous system, abdomen, thorax, bones and soft tissue.

The CAT Scan is used 24 hours a day.  Interventinonal radiology performs over 2,750 examinations annually for angiographies, angiplasties, urological procedure, biopsies and the Mammography Unit serves surgical hospital patients as well as referrals.

The Nuclear Medicine Department provides up-to-date nuclear tests, imaging and hermatological studies as well as radioactive treatments for benign and malignant thyroid diseases and for early detection of breast cancer. It serves all AHMC departments as well as all regional institutions, geriatric hospitals and health clinics. Various research projects are undertaken with the Nuclear Medicine Department of Hadassah Medical Center.

  Assaf Harofeh is ... a Site for Sore Eyes

Devotees of science fiction are familiar with the scene whereby beams of light seem to penetrate walls. Now, take an imaginative leap ahead, a beam that eliminates the use of contact lenses or glasses, and you have brought the future into the present.

Thousand of patients have experienced this at Assaf Harofeh's Excimer Laser Institute, the first of its kind in Israel. The entire procedure takes minutes and does not require hospitalization.

Other, more complex eye problems are treated in the Department of Ophthalmology. Blindness, caused by Glaucoma, retinal detachment and other eye diseases are now preventable through highly sophisticated medical, surgical and laser treatment with a high rate of success.
