Assaf Harofeh is ... a Walk in the Sun

Running in the park, riding a bike, a skipping rope. For most youngsters, these are everyday activities. But to thousands of children with motor or neurological disorders, these are just longed-for dreams.

At Assaf Harofeh's Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, people are working to make those dreams come true. This is the national referral center for children with neuro-development and neuro-muscular impairment, providing comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation services for children with Cerebral Palsy and related disorders.

Closely linked to the Pediatric Orthopedic unit, the center has 20 beds for severely handicapped in-patients, while the busy out-patients' clinic caters to the entire spectrum of child developmental problems occurring during the formative years. A unique special education facility here is devoted to the multi-faceted needs of some 75 children, including those with Cerebral Palsy, spinal cord injuries and other disorders. Important breakthroughs in several fields may help these children realize their dream of a walk in the sun.

  Assaf Harofeh is ... Solace

The sound of music and delighted laughter signifies that the daily exercise class is in progress. Not at the local gym but in the Geriatric Nursing Home of Assaf Harofeh, where dozens of incapacitated, elderly people are working to keep their bodies and minds active.

It has been said that one of the ways to define civilized society is its attitude towards the elderly and Assaf Harofeh cares for them with both respect and affection. As medical care improves, and new procedures in the field of geriatrics are developed, the caring continues unabated.

In the meantime, those now being cared for will continue to benefit from the sound of music, the sight of a smile, and the touch of skilled hands.
