Orthopedic Surgery Department at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center Sport Injuries Treatment ACL reconstruction
The
indications for ACL reconstruction
are acute
or
chronic ligament tear or severe laxity causing
symptomatic
instability or giving way. Patient age
is
15-45. The operation is arthroscopically assisted
(as
described by Howell) with minimal scars.
Autologus
Hamstring tendons are harvested from
the
affected knee and used to replace the ACL,
after
proper canals are drilled in the femur and tibia. Post operative regime
is based on full weight bearing and continuous passive motion (CPM).
No
brace is needed. Four days Hospitalization. Intensive rehabilitation for
3 months is advantageous for success.
