Harofeh Medical Center, the third largest governmental hospital in
Israel, is responsible for the comprehensive medical treatment of some
362,000 people - Jews, Christians and Moslems - who live in the central
part of Israel. In its capacity serving the military, the Medical Center
also treats over 18,000 soldiers annually. Geographically the catchment
area extends from Beit Dagan, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, to Beit Shemesh,
on the way to Jerusalem and includes the towns of Rishon le Zion, Ramle,
Lod, the new towns of Maccabim, Modi'in, and Reuth, villages such as Kfar
Chabad and tens of smaller urban and agricultural settlements. This area
has the fastest growing population in Israel. Over 60,000 new immigrants
have built their homes within this region in the last few years.
Assaf Harofeh provides, today, the whole spectrum of ultramodern general medical and surgical services, with the exception of organ transplantants and open heart surgery.
